About Cluster Flies
Cluster flies are part of the blowfly family, but unlike other fly species they do not present hazard health concerns. Unlike other types of flies who lay their eggs in human food, cluster flies lay their eggs strictly in the soil and the larvae penetrate earthworms as their host. The adults emerge in the late summer and early autumn, when they enter homes in search of a place to hibernate through the winter. In April, all of the cluster flies in house hibernating, wake up, fly outside and search for a place to lay their eggs in cracks in the soil. Several generations of flies emerge throughout the summer and they stop laying eggs in
late August and September to seek a hiding place for winter.
