American cockroaches will enter homes to find water or food. They can easily pass under doors if the weather stripping is damaged. Basement windows and garages are also common entry points. Indoors, American cockroaches often seek refuge in bathrooms, garbage disposals, kitchens, laundry rooms and basements.

The diet of an American cockroach is vast. They will feast on anything and everything – cheese, beer, book bindings, feces, decaying plants and animals and even soiled clothing to name a few.

American cockroaches are capable of spreading harmful diseases and contaminating food. They can pick up germs on their legs and bodies as they crawl through decaying matter or sewage and then transfer these germs to food and clean surfaces.

American cockroaches have three developmental stages: egg, nymph, and adult. Female American cockroaches lay their eggs in protective capsules, with each capsule containing about 16 eggs. With plenty of food, American cockroaches can develop from nymph to adult in less than six months.
